Gives the Class StructureThrowing kicks and punches for the sake of throwing them is a waste of time. A good instructor plans his class. One instruction becomes a logical extension of the previous one. He may have students do drills of punches and blocks, then have students work in pairs, one student throwing the punches she just performed, the other student blocking those punches with the blocks she performed in the drill. Later during the class, the teacher might have students incorporate those techniques during a slow round of sparring. Then he'll have the students build up speed until they, or at least the high-ranking belts, can perform the techniques quickly and accurately. Toward the end of class, the instructor may explain the importance of understanding how to apply basic blocks and punches. The result is a well-rounded class with a definite beginning and logical conclusion.
